Medical marijuana advocates rallied at Alabama's Statehouse in Montgomery on Tuesday, calling on the Legislature to make cannabis available to the patients who need it.

More than 30 activists rallied at the capitol in support of a bill that would authorize a marijuana-based treatment for seizures, reports Charles Molineaux at WAFF.

Rep. Mike Ball, who wrote the law and sponsors it in the House, spoke at the rally as residents from across the state showed their support for medical marijuana, reports the Alabama News Network. Sen. Paul Sanford sponsors the bill in the Senate.

Ball said he originally thought a medical marijuana-related bill would face tough going in the Legislature, but said he's been pleasantly surprised at support.
